6 works in seven volumes, 8° (252 x 156mm, approx.). 5 wood-engraved portraits of Bewick, wood-engraved receipt with facsimile thumb-print and manuscript signature of Bewick, numerous wood-engraved illustrations and decorative vignettes by Thomas and John Bewick. Red straight-grained morocco gilt, bound to match: 3 volumes in uniform contemporary bindings by Benedict of London; 4 volumes in uniform early 20th-century bindings by Riviere & Son, 6 volumes with gilt edges, one volume with top edge gilt, the others uncut. Provenance: Thomas Edward Watson (bookplate; by descent to the present owners).

A General History of Quadrupeds... the fourth edition. Newcastle: 1800. Imperial 8° (252 x 156mm). Title vignette, 225 illustrations, 109 vignette decorations, all by Bewick. Contemporary red straight-grained morocco by Benedict, covers elaborately panelled in gilt and blind with fillets and neo-classical tools, spine bands highlighted in gilt, lettered or with repeat decoration in gilt and blind, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges (slight scuffing to spine). FOURTH EDITION, BUT FIRST AVAILABLE ON IMPERIAL PAPER. One of 230 copies. Roscoe 4a (with variant A title).

History of British Birds. Newcastle: 1797-1804. 2 volumes, imperial 8° (252 x156mm). Title vignettes, 218 illustrations, 227 vignette decorations, all by Bewick. Binding by Benedict uniform with 1. FIRST EDITION, the first volume one of 24 copies. Roscoe 14 a (variant A with vignette on p.22) and 17a (variant B with second state of vignette on p.359).

Figures of British Land Birds... to which are added, a few foreign birds, with their vulgar and scientific names. Newcastle: 1800. Vol.I (all published), royal 8° (250 x 157mm). Title vignette, 131 illustrations, 119 vignette decorations. (Preliminaries spotted.) Early-20th century red straight-grained morocco gilt by Riviere & Son, covers panelled in gilt and blind with fillets and stylised floral rolls, spine lettered and with repeat decoration in gilt and blind, gilt turn-ins, top edge gilt. The Fables of Aesop, and others, with designs on wood, by Thomas Bewick. Newcastle: 1818. Imperial 8° (245 x 160mm). Wood-engraved frontispiece receipt, printed in black and red, with Bewick's manuscript signature and amendment to the receipt, title vignette, 188 illustrations, 136 vignette decorations. Binding uniform with 3 but with gilt edges. FIRST EDITION WITH BEWICK'S ILLUSTRATIONS. Roscoe 45a (variant B with 'road of candour and prudence' reading at foot of p.248).
