FIRST EDITION OF THE FINEST WORK ON NATIVE AMERICANS AND THE AMERICAN FRONTIER. Prince Maximilian came to America in 1832 accompanied by Karl Bodmer, who served as the expedition's artist. The party left St. Louis in April of 1833 in company of officials of the American Fur Company on the steamboat Yellowstone. They traveled to Fort Union, Fort Mackenzie, and Fort Clark, where they spent time with the Mandans. They returned to St. Louis in May of 1834.
