1958 WOLSELEY 15/50 FOUR DOOR SALOON

Burgundy Red with tan vinyl.
Engine: four cylinders in line, overhead valves, SU carburettor, 1,489cc, 50bhp at 4,200rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual; Suspension: front, independent coil springs, rear, semi-elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: drums all round. Right hand drive.
The 15/50 was 1956's evolution of the 4/44, a lighter model which had been introduced four years previously to balance Wolseley's range. By this time the company had been amalgamated by the expanding BMC empire, and the use of unitary construction reflected this with the 4/44 sharing its hull with the MG Magnette before passing it on to its successor, the 15/50. For this model the advances came on the mechanical side, Wolseley's own 1,250cc engine being replaced by Austin's B-Series 1,489cc unit and so offering quicker performance and a slightly higher top speed of 78mph. Inside, the column-shift migrated to the floor.
This example is in very good condition considering it has been stored in a barn since the mid-1980s. The original burgundy paintwork has weathered the years well with no major rust patches showing, and the tan vinyl interior, detailed with a wooden dash, is said to be in presentable condition consistent with the 63,513 miles displayed on the odometer. Having been in storage for so long, this car needs recommissioning before it can be run, but to its advantage it benefits from a pair of Lucas spotlights mounted on the front bumper for improved night vision. The car currently has no documentation.
