The Godfather, 1972/Francis Ford Coppola
Three letters from Francis Ford Coppola to Marlon Brando, various dates, 1970s-2004, comprising:
- a typescript letter, signed, from Francis Ford Coppola to Marlon Brando, [n.d. but circa late 1974], on The Coppola Company... headed stationery, regarding Godfather II, informing Brando ...I previewed THE GODFATHER, Part TWO...and realized that it just wasn't ready. Unfortunately, all the opening dates were set, and so I took the big chance, of going into the film one last time, and making extensive recuts. At any rate, I expect the last few reels of mix to be done this evening, and I'm flying down to L.A. in a desperate hope that I can have an answer print ready for the opening December 12th...this note is to let you know why I hadn't arranged for you to see it as promised... 1p.;
- an autograph letter, signed, dated 3 April, 2004, on American Zoetrope headed stationery, the letter wishing Brando a Happy Birthday and reminiscing I don't know if you remember but 32 years ago, I once went up to you, and joking, said I had a gift for you, and put a 3 week old baby girl in your hands. That baby was, of course, SOFIA, who's made us all very proud. Cheers, Francis, 1p.;
- a Christmas card from the Coppola Family, circa mid-1970s, the front of the card printed with a drawing by Sofia Coppola (3)
