The Sting was released in 1973 and starred Paul Newman as Henry Gondorff and Robert Redford as Johnny Hooker. Set in 1936, the plot centers around a group of con artists who arrange a "sting" operation to pay back a big Chicago gangster for the murder of Hooker's partner. The film picked up seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Adapted Score for Marvin Hamlisch's adaptation of Scott Joplin's ragtime music.
