Lot Essay

Thematically related to the series of eleven small round prints of Cavaliers nègres, polonais et hongrois published anonymously in France around 1651 (De V. 270-280). A study of a similarly caparisoned horse and groom was sold in these Rooms, 10 April 1985, lot 57. They may have been made on the occasion of the arrival of the Polish ambassadors in Paris in 1645.
