Lot Essay

Although born German, Schreyer spent much of his time in France. Like Constantin Guys he was a correspondant on the Crimean war, which ultimately helped him to understand the motion and anatomy of the horse, a subject so prevalent in his work, as are his travels across North Africa and Egypt. Bordeaux museum and Agen museum possess his works.
