Lot Essay

In the 1982 Tate Britain exhibition catalogue, David Fraser Jenkins wrote of the Brittany collages of the early 1960s; 'the drawing and colour lie in the angular and circular shapes of the cut papers, which are more rhythmical than in the pre-war collages, but are similarly on the surface'. (John Piper, London, p. 126).
