Lot Essay

Giulio Rosati was deeply enamored of the Orient, and although he never actually visited the Middle East, he dedicated himself almost entirely to this genre. Rosati invented his paintings drawing inspiration from literature and by carefully studying the works of his contemporaries who had made the foray into the Orient. Rosati used photographs, engravings and objects brought back to construct authentic descriptions of life in the East.
