OECUMENIUS, Bishop of Tricca. \KExegeseis palaiai\k...Expositiones antiquae ac valde vtiles breuitatem...ab Oecumenio & Aretha collectae...Oecumenii quidem in Acta Apostolorum...In Pauli omnes. Arethae vero In Ioannis Apocalypsim, Verona: Stefano & fratelli Nicolini da Sabbio, February 1532. 2° (325 x 210mm). Title and colophon in Greek and Latin, text in Greek, woodcut headpieces and several initials alla greca, a little red printing, blanks as mentioned by Adams except for the lack of the final blank, u2 blank save for signature (very slightly spotted and stained in first 2 and last 2 leaves). Early 17th-century vellum, authors' names in gilt on spine, red edges.
FIRST EDITION. This is one of the few productions from the private press of Giovanni Matteo Giberti (Palermo 1495-Verona 1543), Bishop of Verona, established in his episcopal palace by Stefano Nicolini da Sabbio, for the purpose of publishing patristic texts. Apart from the present volume Giberti also had printed several Greek and Latin works between 1529 and 1532 by Stefano and at least one of his brothers including four volumes of Chrysostom's Commentary on the Pauline Epistles and John Damascene's treatise on orthodox belief. Although nothing is known for certain it is likely that the new Greek and Latin types for this venture were cut by Stefano with the assistance of one of his brothers. Censimento CNCE 18446; Adams O111; Hoffmann III, p.3.
