Lot Essay

The Bugaku dances were a very old form of dance performance coming from ancient China. They have been introduced in Japan around 200 BC and practiced until 19th century. These very complicated dances were performed by aristocrats and even the princes themselves. Their music was derived from ancient Tang melodies and were played by musicians wearing a very singular headgear called Bugaku kabuto or Bugaku helmet (cf. one of the two brushpots)
