the tapering body with brazed copper seam terminating in a flared bell, mouthpiece and applied knotted string and leather grip, engraved with a list of commanders and actions between 1772 and 1812 and further inscribed THIS SPEAKING TRUMPET WAS ON NELSONS/FLAGSHIP VICTORY AT TRAFALGAR 21 OCT 1805/IT WAS OBTAINED IN 1838 FROM CAPT. SHALLARD, R.N./BY JOHN HODGSON, ESQR OF THE ELMS, HAMPSTEAD with the added line FROM WHOSE SON IT WAS INHERITED BY AGATHA MARCHIONESS OF SLIGO -- 22¼in. (56.5cm.) high.
