Sale room notice
The first cannon in this lot is not Louis XVI but is in fact a later replica. The date for this cannon should read 'early 19th Century'.

The second cannon, the French small model preseentation cannon was acquired on 12 December 1988. It was described as: "Superbe modèle de canon offert par le Prince de Condé à M. Mignot, Maître des Comptes. Fût en bronze, affût en fer tapiné, roues en fer imitant le bois, cerclées de métal argenté. Dernier tiers du XVIII. Long: 0.18 m."

The description of a third cannon in Volume 2 of the Wildenstein catalogue is a duplication of the French small model presentation cannon. Therefore there are only 2 cannons in this lot.

Lot Essay

The arms are perhaps those of the Dukes de Condé, members of the House of Bourbon.
