Lot Essay

Closely related hanging-lamps are in the lobby and vestibules to the Upper Hall at Nostell Priory, Yorkshire and also at Temple Newsam House, Leeds (Country House Lighting, Leeds, 1992, no. 57, pp. 77-78). A large smoke shade, of the same design as the present lot, can be seen in the Lamp-Room at Port Eliot, Cornwall (ibid., p. 10, fig. 2).
