Lot Essay
Jewels by JAR, the acronym of Joel Arthur Rosenthal, are truly unique. JAR produces less than a hundred pieces per year and each jewel is one of a kind. Driven by a great sense for beauty, for colour and for innovative design, JAR knows how to please the eye with his creations like no other. This passion combined with meticulous craftsmanship carried out to the extreme results in jewels that are indeed pieces of art. Two exhibitions, one in 1987 at the National Academy of Design, New York and the other in 2002-2003 at Somerset House, London have paid tribute to this.
The present ear hoops represent JAR at his simplest: their delicate setting and the unusual, asymmetrical design set them apart from most jewellery encountered nowadays.
