VERDI, Giuseppe (1813-1901). Four autograph letters signed (one with initials 'G.V.') to Giulio Ricordi, Milan and Sant'Agata, 23 August 1888 - 26 July 1891 and n.d., together four pages, 8vo; envelopes.

In August 1888, Verdi proposes a donation to the Society of Lyric Artists. A letter dated only 'Venerdì' [1889] gives a hurried resumé of his travel plans -- just arrived in Milan, leaving for Genoa at any moment, coming back on Sunday to Milan: he hopes to see Ricordi on the Monday, or even Sunday. A similarly breathless letter in 1891 announces their arrival in Milan, and asks when Ricordi will drop in; 'we would love to know that Giuditta [Ricordi] was well'. The letter of 26 July 1891 wishes Ricordi 'Buon viaggio'. (4)
