Lot Essay

Vulture was a bay filly foaled in 1833 by Langar out of Kite, bred by Mr. Allanson and owned by Colonel Peel. She had a moderate racing career, winning three races in 1837, but her career as a brood mare was much more successful. In 1841 she got Orlando (by Touchstone) Orlando, owned by Colonel Peel, came second to Mr. Wood's Running Rein in the controversial Derby of 1844, which resulted in a court case between the two owners.
