A George III mahogany thirty-hour chiming longcase clock with perpetual calendar
George Smith, Carthlett Mills. Circa 1780
The case with reeded stop-chamfered angles flanking the trunk door, the hood with brass-capped fluted columns with swan neck pediment and ball-and-spire finials, the dial signed George Smith Carthlett Mills in the foliate engraved centre, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring and pierced blued steel hands with sweep seconds, foliate rocaille spandrels, calendar to the arch with central silvered disc for the months, seasons and four year cycle the outer silvered arc engraved with the months with fly-back hand, the four pillar movement with anchor escapement, chiming on eight bells by means of a pump lever; the mechanism restored
