Lot Essay

The scene is from Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book of 1894. Mowgli, raised by animals observes for the first time in his life a woman. In this typical 1930's painting, André Le Moigne captures the lushness of the jungle and the young man's tense interest in the naked woman who takes her bath.
