For a pair of plates in the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg and a discussion of the service, see Dieter Hoffmeister, Meissener Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts, Katalog der Sammlung Hoffmeister, Hamburg, 2000, Vol. II, pp. 524-5, nos. 343-4. By repute the service was ordered for the celebration festivities of the Coronation of Augustus III as King of Poland in 1734, although up to the present day no official evidence can be found to confirm this. Archival records show that the first delivery to the Japanese Palace comprised 77 items, including plates, dishes and four tureens manufactured between 1733 and 1734. Later additional deliveries between 1734 and 1740 are undocumented. The stand bears identical trefoil coat-of-arms and can be linked to a very similar tureen stand from the Sulkowski service designed by Kaendler in 1735 (Collection Dr. E. Schneider, Düsseldorf, see exhibition catalogue Bayerischen Nationalmuseum München, R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810, p. 116 and Tafel XVIII Kat Nr. 488).
