With Atticising decoration, a single deer on each shoulder, one with head down grazing, the other with head turned back scratching its forehead with hind leg, with three broad encircling bands below, a relief band in purple at base of neck, the handles, neck rim and foot black glazed

Provenance
Collection of the late Lord Plowden, G.B.E., K.C.B., and Lady Plowden, D.B.E., of Martels Manor, Great Dunmow, Essex, and by descent to the present owners. The amphora had been the property of Lord and Lady Plowden for many years; it was certainly in their possession by 1944, when they purchased Martels Manor.
