Lot Essay

A virtually identical urn or kettle-stand, possibly the pair to this urn-stand was formerly in the collection of Nelson Grimaldi Seabra It was sold from his collection, Christie's, New York, 22 October 2003, lot 10 and is to be offered anonymously, Christie's, New York, 7 April 2006, lot 359. The latter was illustrated in P. Macquoid, A History of English Furniture: The Age of Mahogany, London, 1906, p. 241, fig. 225.
