Lot Essay

Harold Mockford works and paints in Sussex. His isolation and independence has kept his handling of paint agile, personal and poetic. His work testifies to a number of influences including Samuel Palmer and Carel Weight. The present work is an example of how he converts the Sussex landscape into a magical and compelling image.
