A GERMAN FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL BY JACOB KUCHENREUTER
circa 1780
With tapering barrel rifled with eight grooves, signed in silver letters on the sighting flat and chiselled in low relief with a stag in wooded landscape within a frame of rococo motifs, chiselled with rococo scrolls about the 'spider' fore-sight (blade replaced) and the breech with maker's stamp (rubbed), the tang numbered 2 and fitted with two-leaf back-sight, chiselled slightly rounded lock decorated en suite with the barrel, figured walnut full stock carved with scrolls and contour mouldings in low relief (the butt cracked through), full gilt-brass mounts cast with rococo ornament in low relief on a finely punched ground, involving further stag-hunting subjects throughout, set trigger, horn fore-end cap, and original horn-tipped ramrod (incomplete).
