Lot Essay

On 1 May 1969, Christie's sold a diamond and sapphire brooch of almost identical design from the property of the late Nina Dyer (1930-1965), formerly wife of Baron Hans Heinrich von Thyssen-Bornemisza and then of Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan. She was one of Cartier's panther enthusiasts. The tiger motif, by contrast, was a favourite of Barbara Hutton, formerly the world's richest heiress.
