Lot Essay

This view by Rowe depicts the herbaceous border and the broad walk at Hampton Court. The windows that we see are those of the south façade overlooking the walled privy garden. Rowe's watercolour was probably executed in 1921 and shows the roses 'Dorothy Perkins' and 'Waltham Rambler' flowering above dianthus and iris.
