Lot Essay

The delicate gold flowers for this brooch and earrings were cast directly from a cutting from the Escallonia shrub growing in John Donald's garden. As a keen amateur horticulturalist herself, when H.R.H. The Princess Margaret was shown the early stages of the casting of the flowers from the small evergreen plant, she was immediately taken with the concept. The Princess enquired after the species of flower, and asked for a matching set of Escallonia brooch and earclips to be made for her.
