This is the scarce Catalan translation of the famous Consolado del Mar, a celebrated collection of maritime customs and ordinances, "the name being derived from the fact that it embodied the rules of law followed in the maritime cities of the Mediterranean coast by the commercial judges known generally as consuls" (Encycl. Brit, 11th ed., "Consulate." The work was compiled in Catalonia, probably in the 14th century, and became very popular following its publication in print late in the 15th century. "This works contains everything that has to do with the sea and sailors, Courts of Admiralty, merchant vessels and their customers, ships of war and Admirals, harbour rules, etc." (Maggs, Spanish Books, 1927, no. 271). Not in Sabin. Palau 59528.
