Autograph letter signed to Mr de la Rive, Rector of the Académie de Suisse in Geneva, Leri, 3 November 1843, in French, thanking him for his approbation of an article on Mr de Chateauvieux, 'I have no other merit than of having perceived that one had to speak more of the author than of the work', referring also to his admiration for the Duc de Broglie, discussing the Irish question ('The conduct of O'Connell demonstrates that he is only daring because of the patience of his opponents'), and other public and personal matters ('I shall not speak of Genevan or Swiss politics. I have no understanding of the 'bravades' of Lucerne ...'), 4 pages, 4to, integral address panel, postal markings (seal tear, some wear to margins, mounting strip to left margin);
