The Mini's dynamic capabilities were quickly recognised when it emerged in August 1959; before the year was out it had won its first rally by a margin of ten minutes. Racer John Cooper seized upon this potential, and in 1961 the Cooper Car Company collaborated with BMC to release a "breathed-upon" version equipped with twin SU carburettors, three-branch exhaust manifold, remote gear change and close ratio gearbox. The only mass-produced saloon car in the world to be equipped with disc brakes, the Mini was a strong rally competitor from the start, but the ultimate success came in 1964 with a win in the Monte Carlo Rally in the hands of Paddy Hopkirk and Henry Liddon.

That car, 33 EJB, provided the inspiration and guide for the example we offer here today. Incorporating a number of modifications, 8007 ET now boasts a larger, Swiftune Engineering engine, competition clutch, and fully adjustable Hi-Lo suspension. It has been prepared for competition with the inclusion of a full roll-cage, plumbed-in fire extinguisher system and rally intercom, and has competed with a great deal of success in a number of hillclimbs including Harewood and Pestalozzi, in both of which it won its class.

Complying with full FIA and RAC historic rally regulations, the car has been featured in Mini World magazine, and is accompanied by numerous invoices, restoration photographs, MoTs dating back to 1976 and a BMIHT certificate confirming this genuine Cooper S to have been built in March 1964. Offered in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition throughout, this is a solid and competitive prospect for anyone wishing to participate in historic events.
