An Imperial edict. China, dated to the 9th day of the 11th lunar month of the 34th year of the Guangxu period (corresponding to 1908).
Mounted as a handscroll, approximately 160 inches length by 12½ inches width, the text arranged in standard form reading from left to right in Manchu and repeated from right to left in Chinese characters, the Chinese text opening with a seven-character title in a vertical line, Yu Shimei zi zhu fumu, 'A posthumous honor granted to the grandparents of Yu Shimei', followed by a long text and ending with the date, the 34th year of Guangxu, corresponding to 1908, stamped with a seal impression within a square beside each transliteration
The present edict is addressed to a Shangdong high official, Yu Shimei.
