[CHINA]. An album mounted with 24 paintings, each leaf painted in gouache on silk with figures in various pursuits, each painting accompanied by inscriptions either in regular or running script. Inscription by Xuan Long, with one seal. Probably late 19th century.
331 x 268 mm. Accordion form. (Some pale staining.) Brocade-covered boards (worn). Provenance: purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 3 November 1955.
The drawings include views of a mourner at a grave; a man in a buck's skin, shot by an arrow, with two hunters coming upon him; a man herding two white elephants; a woman nursing an old man in the desert; a tiger snarling a man and a boy; and the apparition of a holy man in the clouds to another man below.
