ITALIAN MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM, in several hands, Venice, ca. mid 17th century. Illuminated frontispiece in several colors displaying two scenes, one the Lion of Saint Mark, with the Castello San Angelo in the distance, the other Justicia with a sword and scales, flanked by a Friar Minor, apparently Saint Francis of Assisi with the Stigmata, Saint Mark and Saint Dominic.
Thick 4o. Contemporary red velvet with large silver bosses in each corner, in the center of front cover is a silver plaque displaying Christ baptizing Saint John, one silver, lyre-shaped clasp (second clasp absent, velvet worn along spine and edges).
A text written for Franciscus Ericius [or Erizzo], 98th Doge of Venice, who was elected in 1631 and died in 1645. Contains the signatures of various people connected with the Venetian government.
