Christopher Hatton (1632-1706), 1st Viscount Hatton of Grendon, 2nd. Baron Hatton of Kirby succeeded his father as second Baron Hatton of Kirby and also as governor of Guernsey in 1670. In 1683 he was created Viscount Hatton of Grendon. He was married three times and left two sons who both succeeded him to his titles and estates, after their deaths the title became extinct and their estates passed to the Finch-Hattons, Earls of Winchelsea and Nottingham, whose ancestor Daniel Finch, 2nd Earl of Nottingham, married Anne (D.1743) daughter of 1st Viscount Hatton.

According to Steegman (J. Steegman, A survey of Portraits in Welsh Houses, Cardiff, 1957, p.190). The portraits of Finch and Hatton come through marriage of Sir Thomas Mostyn with Lady Essex Finch in 1703.
