Lot Essay

Known as the finest and most prolific horse painter in 20th Century Swiss art, Hugentobler worked for a number of years for the Swiss racing industry and produced many fine portraits of horse and jockey. These distinguished designs, much admired and valued by turf enthusiasts to the present day, were used throughout the 1920's, 30's and 40's as posters to advertise equestrian racing and events.
