Lot Essay

The phaser rifle was introduced in "Where No Man Has Gone Before," the second pilot episode for The Original Series, made in 1965. It was never seen again during the run of the first show. Rick Sternbach updated the weapon for its return during the fourth season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and that version also saw service in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. A different design, called a "compression phaser" was introduced in Star Trek: Voyager, and no less than four different versions were used in The Next Generation movies.
