Lursa and B'Etor were members of the politically powerful House of Duras. When Duras was killed, the two sisters conspired to overthrow High Council leader Gowron. They even enlisted the aid of Sela, the mysterious Romulan operative, to help install Duras's illegitimate son as the new council leader. In the process, they triggered a civil war in the Klingon Empire. They subsequently appeared in Star Trek Generations, where their machinations led to the destruction of the Starship Enterprise-D.
