ENTERPRISE-A MODEL AND POWER SUPPLY
The iconic visual effects model of the refit Starship Enterprise, made from cast resin and glass fiber on a heliarced aluminum armature with motion control mounts and untested internal neon and incandescent lights, with delicately airbrushed details in the subtle, Starfleet "aztec" paneling pattern and an intricately patterned glaze of matte and gloss varnishes to create realistic variations in surface gloss when backlit, with power supply console -- 100x46½x21in. -- originally made for Star Trek: The Motion Picture and also featured in Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, currently detailed and labeled as the Enterprise-A as seen in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Lot Essay

The Starship Enterprise was originally designed in 1964 by art director Walter M. Jefferies for the first Star Trek series. It has earned its place as an icon of science fiction design. In 1977, Jefferies updated his famous ship for the proposed Star Trek: Phase II series. When the project morphed into Star Trek: The Motion Picture, designers Richard Taylor and Andrew Probert of Robert Abel and Associates, along with Douglas Trumbull and others joined forces to further refine Jefferies' concept into what many regard as the definitive Star Trek starship. Magicam, under the supervision of Joe Mazza and James Dow, built this exceptionally well-detailed, robust model, with additional work by Future General. Noted airbrush artist Paul Olsen created the ship's signature "aztec" panelwork. The model was modified slightly by ILM to represent the Enterprise-A in Star Trek IV, Vand VI. The movie version of the Starship Enterprise is one of the finest visual effects models ever made for motion picture science fiction.
