An unusual Adolf Muller display Automaton group
with line chalked papier-maché clad figures of a man and woman with painted faces, glass eyes, smiling mouths showing bone teeth, pivoted necks with pull-strings for eyelids and head movements, the rigid bodies with moulded skirts and remains of garments, the four-pillar lacquered brass clockwork mechanism with single spring motor, circa 1890, the figures --20in. (51cm.) high (dismantled, missing two arms, base and clothes, mechanism incomplete and lacking governor)
