Epistola, de admirabili & novissima Hispanorum in Orientem navigatione. Rome: F. Minutius Calvus, February, 1524. 4° (128 x 150mm). Woodcut border to title-page. (Light dampstaining, initial letter not printed on B2r.) [?]18th-century vellum (lacking ties, later rear endpaper, minor restoration to covers, upper hing cracking); modern morocco-backed box. Provenance: Salamon fils, Avocat du Roi in the Seneschal's Court of Comté Venaissin (engraved armorial bookplate on upper pastedown).

SECOND ROME EDITION OF THE FIRST VOYAGE AROUND THE WORLD BY FERDINAND MAGELLAN, 1519-1522. The author was the Secretary of Carlos V, for whom Magellan sailed, and a relation of Magellan's shipmate and friend, Christopher Haro. When Magellan's surviving ship 'Vittoria' returned to Spain in September, 1522, and Maximilianus was a pupil of Peter Martyr and was instructed to interview the survivors. This new edition is textually the same as the Cologne printing of 1523 except for 1 page, and substantially the same text as the first Rome edition of 1523.
