Circus fat lady with her dog Troubles is an early print of Arbus's - typified by an image with hard edges, before Arbus began to blur them in the darkroom with her enlarger using strips of cardboard. These early prints, especially evident in the present lot, were usually printed in the 14 x 11 inch format, and are often typified by a beautiful, cool, steely tonality.
