A hand-painted scroll inspired by the famous Choju giga (Scrolls of Frolicking Animals) by Toba Sojo (1053-1140) which are housed in the Kozan-ji Temple in Kyoto, a variety of animals including rabbits, monkeys, frogs, foxes, deer, cats and owls are depicted as pilgrims, priests, musicians, sumo wrestlers etc. walking in processions, playing go, wrestling, running, jumping, and so forth, very good colours and condition
Makimono, approximately 30cm. x 1250cm.
