A PAIR OF FLEMISH PERGOLA TAPESTRIES
BRUSSELS, EARLY 17TH CENTURY
Each woven in wools and silks and depicting a flower-filled vase within a columned pergola with vine-decorated classical columns and hunting scenes beyond, within a bead-and-reel border with fruiting floral garlands decorated to the sides with classical terms and centred to top and bottom with cabochon-filled cartouches flanked by putti and parrots, within a blue outer slip, each with Brussels town mark, one with weaver's marks, minor areas of restoration and reweaving, currently sewn together and with later added blue outer guard borders
11 ft. 4 in. x 8 ft. 6 in. (346 cm. x 258 cm.) and
11 ft. 4 in. x 8 ft. 5 in. (346 cm. x 256 cm.)
Provenance
Probably from Château d'Amenoville and the Collection of the Marquis de la Rochefoucauld.
