by Pierre-François Drais (fl. 1763-1788), marked, Paris, 1767-1768, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Jacques Prévost 1762-1768, the flange engraved 'Drais a Paris' and struck with inventory number 492
Oval box, the cover, base and sides boldly chased in three-colour gold with central reserves of sunflower-heads on a matted ground, within reeded borders interspersed with swirling flowerheads, lid and base framed by laurel swags on reeded bands, the sides with trelliswork hung with laurel festoons
