Peint lors d'un séjour à Honfleur en 1909, ce tableau représente la Villa Beaulieu, proprieté de la famille Lachèvre où Vallotton demeura quelques jours. L'artiste en fit cadeau à Bernard Lachèvre, aquarelliste honfleurais spécialisé dans les marines.

Painted during Vallotton's 1909 stay in Honfleur, the present painting depicts the Lachèvre family home, the Villa Beaulieu. The artist gifted the present work to Bernard Lachèvre, who was himself a watercolourist who specialised in marine landscapes.
