Using only 220 different words throughout the entire book, Geisel succeeded in creating an enduring and amusing classic of children's literature. Laid-in to this copy is an AUTOGRAPH NOTE BY DR. SEUSS AND A DRAWING OF THE CAT IN THE HAT, inscribed: "Herewith: one cat .. with hat ... hatted! Dr. Seuss."
