An English walnut, mahogany and seaweed marquetry longcase clock
Signed Robert Sly, King Street, Westminster. Elements late 17th Century
The hood with later scroll pediment centred by an eagle finial, later fluted Corinthian columns, the trunk bordered with panels of seaweed marquetry and with conforming reserves above and below the door lenticle, further marquetry to the plinth and skirting, the 12in. square brass dial with cherub and coronet spandrels to replaced silvered chapter ring signed Rob. Sly King Street Westminster', with elaborate sword hilt half hour markers and cross half quarter hour markers, matted centre with replaced subsidiary seconds ring, date aperture with bird engraving above and possibly later ringing to the winding holes, pierced blued steel hands, the eight day movement with four ringed pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell, on replaced and built up seatboard, dial and movement with alterations and associated to case, the latter with extensive restorations/alterations; two weights, pendulum, crank key
