Lot Essay

cf. Exhibition catalogue, Bernhard Pankok 1972-1943, Stuttgart Altes Schloss, 1973, p. 95, fig. 182 for an illustration of an armchair of this model in situ at the ladies' room at the International Art Exhibition in Dresden, 1901.

The present armchair was originally designed by Bernhard Pankok for the exhibition stand of the Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk (Associated workshops for art in craft), in Dresden in 1901. However, some of the pieces were not finished in time for the exhibition, and the complete version of the room was finally presented in Turin at the Esposizione Internazionale del Disegno in 1902.
