Lot Essay

Only four examples of this vase were made, all by special order. It is noted in the Gorham costing book that example number two made in 1880 was chased by Taylor. Taylor, who was known for his superior skill, was given Gorham's more demanding tasks. It is also assumed that this exceptional, Taylor-chased version was chosen to be illustrated in the 1880 Hollowware 1884 Flatware Photo Book.
