This Roman patterned armchair, whose robust form creates the impression of golden bronze sculpture, relates to the Santi pattern discussed above. However, in place of a Roman Eagle, its tympanum is wreathed by 'Venus' pearls and sculpted in bas-relief with eagle-headed griffin; and these issue from laurelled rinceaux of Roman acanthus to guard a palm-enriched and acanthus-flowered pillar. The antique-fluted frame includes palm-wreathed pilasters that support a cresting, whose 'echinous' moulded cornice is wreathed by beribboned laurels; while yet more poetic laurels wrap the reed moulding that runs beneath its upholstered tablet. Its lion-headed griffin monopodiae, which support arched and palm-flowered 'cippus' crestings, are interrupted at the angles of the seat-rail by palm-flowered tablets.
